His story was told in the 2014 movie ‘Pride’ which has now been turned into a musical in London’s West End.

Council is now seeking views on a Draft Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA) which will consider the potential impact of the proposal on the promotion of equality of opportunity and good relations, in accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.

It outlines the information considered to date, potential equality and good relations impacts identified, and measures that could be taken to address any adverse impacts and strengthen positive outcomes. The assessment will remain open to review in light of evidence and views received through the consultation.

The proposal is for the plaque to be installed at a suitable location within Portrush Town Hall. Its precise location will be determined having regard to available space, accessibility and other practical considerations. The proposed wording is included in the consultation report.

Council is particularly interested in hearing views on the equality and good relations impacts identified in the Draft EQIA; any potential impacts that may not have been identified; relevant evidence or personal experience; the proposed measures to address any adverse impacts and

suggestions for strengthening the positive contribution of the proposal.
