Flairė & Co's Elaine marks 40 years as a hairdresser in Larne

A Larne hairdresser has marked an amazing 40 years of working in the industry – and has no plans to put the scissors away just yet.

Elaine Gilmour of Flairė & Co on Main Street celebrated the milestone in August.

Having left school at 16 with eight O-Levels, Elaine went to Larne Tech to do a secretarial course.

However, she soon found a hairdressing placement through the Job Centre.

"This meant travelling to Ballymena Tech one day a week and the rest in Larne; this is when I started to build my client base,” she said.

"It’s amazing how 40 years later I still have some of those clients, and clients that came here with their mums and even their grannies – three generations of hair.

"The high point of my career has to be partnering with Jennifer to open Flairė & Co. Our salon has been recognised within the industry but most importantly, it’s been rewarded by our clients wanting to come back.”
