Greenisland Library closing until next summer

Libraries NI has announced Greenisland Library is to close next month until summer 2023 to allow for refurbishment work.

The planned scheme includes the installation of a new heating and ventilation system, new roof covering with improved insulation, new entrance doors, new energy efficient lighting throughout and internal and external redecoration.

During the temporary closure of the Glassillan Grove premises, which commences on Monday, December 5, Libraries NI advises customers can visit any public library. The closest branches include:

In a statement, Libraries NI added: “It is planned that a mobile library will park in the layby on the green directly facing the Baptist Church on Thursday 15 December 2022 from 1:30pm to 3:30 pm, and then alternate Thursdays from 12th January 2023 from 1.30pm to 3.30 until the refurbishment work is completed.

“During the library closure, items can be renewed online with your library membership card and PIN number which is available from library staff. eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines can also be borrowed through our online library.”

Libraries NI’s free services are delivered through a network of 96 branch libraries, two heritage libraries, 16 mobile libraries and 10 home call vehicles.

Meanwhile, Greenisland’s Christmas lights will be switched on at the Community Centre on Thursday, December 1, 7pm – 8pm, with performances from Silverstream PS and Greenisland PS choirs, and a visit from Santa.
