On Tuesday police in the Craigavon area were on patrol on the Moyraverty Road around midday when they spotted a motorbike, bearing ‘L’ plates ‘being driven erratically at the roundabout’.
"When signalled to stop for police, the driver instead made off at speed,” said Sergeant Patterson.
"Officers were immediately concerned that the manner of driving was placing members of the public at risk. With the assistance of our Air Support Unit, who were able to track the Aprili bike’s journey, specially trained officers then commenced a pursuit. At times, the bike reached speeds in excess of 50mph in 30mph zones, as the driver attempted to evade police.
"The driver was detained in the Larkfield Meadows area a short time later, and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while unfit and failing to stop for police.”
The vehicle was seized and the man arrested at that time.
Sergeant Patterson said on Tuesday: "It's fortunate that traffic in the area was relatively light - or we could have been looking at much more serious consequences this afternoon. We're grateful that we were able to stop this vehicle before damage, injury, or worse, could be caused.
"Our enquiries are ongoing. We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the motorbike in the area to contact us using our witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals reference 643 21/07/26.”
Police are keen to speak to anyone with dashcam or other footage.
