Over £2k raised for Alzheimer’s Society and Age NI during generous effort in Ballyclare

The pair raised an amazing £1,018 for Alzheimer’s Society through the annual Field of Hope Fundraiser which took place in April.

Adhering to coronavirus guidelines and social distancing measures, members of the public picked an incredible 100,000 daffodils in just four days, making donations to both Alzheimer’s Society and Age NI, raising a total of £2,042.

Commenting on the initiative, Cllr Stewart said: “The ‘Field of Hope’ fundraising campaign, was set up by Ian and Love Ballyclare to raise funds to support the work of Alzheimer’s Society and the Ballyclare Dementia Day Care Centre managed by Age NI.

“Sadly, there can be very few of us who don’t know someone who is living with dementia, and tragically coronavirus has impacted hardest on those people and their families. That’s why, through this campaign, we are delighted to have raised £2,042 to support people living with dementia.

“By fundraising for people living for dementia we are taking the first steps to achieve our goal of making Ballyclare a ‘dementia friendly’ town in 2021. We would encourage the local community to get involved and help us to achieve our goal.”

Jenay McCartan, Community Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society in Northern Ireland added: “Following a difficult year for people with dementia, we are in awe of supporters like Ian and Michael whose brilliant fundraising efforts enable us to reach more people through our vital support services, like the Dementia Connect support line. We would also like to sincerely thank everyone who gave so generously and made this donation possible.

“We are delighted that their goal is to make Ballyclare dementia friendly and look forward to working closely together in 2021 and beyond.

“A simple way members of the Ballyclare community can get involved is to support Alzheimer’s Society and take action during Dementia Action Week (May 17-23).”
