Paul’s fundraising challenge reaches new heights
Lisburn man Paul Thompson has become well known for his fundraising drive to raise money for Friends of the Cancer Centre and Cancer Focus NI.
With a goal to wash 100 cars and raise £1000, Paul more than surpassed that target and has raised an amazing £50,000.
He is showing no signs of slowing down and in fact his fundraising has reached new heights as he swapped washing cars for washing an aeroplane.
After being diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2007 and metastatic germ cell cancer in 2021, Paul decided he wanted to do something to thank the charities that had supported him during his health battle.

Paul was shocked by the support of local people and he is now on his way to washing his 200th car.
However, a friend recently came up with an idea to change things up a bit and offered Paul the new challenge of washing a plane.
"My mate flies the jet from time to time,” explained Paul. “We used to work together selling cars.
"It took a bit longer than washing a car and I had to take care not to damage any sensors on it as a replacement would have blown all the money raised so far!

"I am so grateful that the owners entrusted me to clean it,” Paul added. “It was awesome experience.”
With the first anniversary of the fundraising effort quickly approaching on September 13, Paul is hoping to have reached his new target of washing 200 cars.
So far he has washed 195, plus one jet of course, so he is on course to smash his new target as well.
