Chelsea Smyth (23) was recently enrolled on the one-year course at the world famous venue, which specialises in dance education and training.

Speaking to the Times, Chelsea, who has danced from a young age, said: “I attended the Doogan Dance Academy since the age of eight and have been assisting in their classes since 16.

“I currently still work for Gillian Doogan and am working towards my BATD Dance Teacher’s exam to make me a qualified dance teacher.”

Chelsea, who received her teaching degree from Belfast’s Stranmillis University, will be able to complete her Master’s in Northern Ireland, allowing her to continue supporting Doogan Dance Academy.

She explained: “I attended a week-long introduction in London, but the Master’s is an independent course which allows me to focus my study on the dance school I assist at, so I don’t need to move there.”

After gaining her qualification from the London-based dance school, Chelsea hopes to inspire young dancers.

She added: “I’d love to touch on the curriculum side of dance and inspire children in a school setting who might not have the opportunity to attend a dance class.

“I was recently teaching in China, but I had to come home once the pandemic struck and this seemed like the next step.”
