Portadown College launches 'exciting and ambitious' new development plan
Portadown College has unveiled an ambitious new school development plan which sets out a bold course for the future as it builds on a century of educational excellence and prepares for its next chapter.
The launch of the plan for 2026-29, along with a refreshed ASPIRE Vision, was marked by principal Gillian Gibb, chairman of the Board of Governors Peter Aiken and the senior prefect team and reflects the shared commitment of students, staff and governors to delivering the highest standards of education and opportunity for every young person.

Developed through extensive consultation with students, staff, parents / carers and governors, the new development plan outlines a clear and ambitious strategy focused on four key priorities:
- Delivering consistently high-quality learning and teaching
- Making more effective use of data to enhance student outcomes
- Providing a future-focused curriculum that equips young people for life beyond the college
- Strengthening partnerships between the college and home
At the heart of the plan is a refreshed ASPIRE Vision, which Portadown College said captures the values that define its school experience:
Achievement – striving for excellence in academic and personal accomplishments.
Support – providing a nurturing and encouraging environment for all students.
Participation – engaging actively in College life and opportunities.
Individual growth – developing the unique talents and potential of every person.
Respect – building trust through mutual regard.
Education for life – equipping students with the skills and mindset for lifelong learning.
Portadown College said the vision commits the college to ‘empower every student to achieve personal excellence through a supportive community that celebrates individual growth and active participation; while fostering mutual respect and preparing young people to make a meaningful contribution to society’.
Principal Gillian Gibb said: “Our new development plan is about reaffirming who we are as a college community and what we stand for. Our refreshed ASPIRE Vision reflects our unwavering belief that every young person can achieve excellence when they are supported, challenged and inspired to realise their full potential.
"As we look to the future, we are determined to build on our strong foundations, embrace new opportunities and ensure that every student leaves Portadown College equipped with the knowledge, skills, character and confidence to thrive in an ever-changing world.
"Our senior prefect team will play a key role in championing the ASPIRE values across the college, ensuring that student voice, leadership and participation remain central to PC life.”
Chairman of the Board of Governors Peter Aiken added: “Portadown College has a proud heritage, but our focus is firmly on the future. This development plan and refreshed ASPIRE Vision set out an exciting and ambitious agenda that will help every student flourish academically, personally and socially.
"The governors are immensely proud of the college community and the shared commitment demonstrated by students, staff and parents. ASPIRE captures the very best of what Portadown College represents: achievement, opportunity, respect and education for life.
"We are confident that these values, combined with a clear strategic direction, will continue to drive excellence across every aspect of college life.”
