Prestigious recognition for Larne artist

Kim, who established Art of this World fine art workshops service in 2014, has been accepted into the Ulster Society of Women Artists and has a painting in their new Spring exhibition.

The Department of Finance also purchased one of Kim’s paintings, ‘Christmas Eve’ for NI Civil Service’s permanent art collection.

Speaking to this newspaper, Kim explained: “It was a great privilege to be selected as a member of USWA, a collective of women artists working across Northern Ireland, providing opportunities to exhibit together as a group across art venues.

“The group was established in 1957 by artist Gladys McCabe at a time when art societies here weren’t accepting women artists. The support and solidarity of other female artists remains integral towards motivating and making our voices stronger together. The current president is artist Judith Logan.

“I was delighted to have work purchased by DoF for NI Civil Service permanent art collection. As an artist it encourages me to know that my work will continue to exist publicly as a record of my time, place and family.”

Kim spoke to the Times earlier this year about how she has had to adapt during the coronavirus pandemic.

Commenting on her hopes as restrictions ease, Kim added: “With restrictions easing and when I receive the second part of my Covid vaccine my hope is to return to face-to-face workshops and physical art exhibitions by summer.

“Art is such a physical process for me it really needs to be seen in the flesh to get the full sensory experience of colour, texture, surface, presence and interaction.”
