Tributes paid to founding member of Ballyclare Rugby Club

Tributes have been paid following the passing of former Ballyclare Rugby Football Club President, Derek Moore.

Mr Moore passed away peacefully at hospital on October 13.

He was the beloved husband of the late Laura, much-loved father of Dawn, Sharon and Adrian, father-in-law of Jona, Stephen and Stacey and loving grandfather of Hannah, Alan, Lucy, Leo and Ryan.

The Bruslee resident was a founding member of Ballyclare Rugby Club. He had served as a Patron and President of the Doagh Road-based club.

Paying tribute on social media, a spokesperson for the club said: “Ballyclare RFC President, Chairman, Committee and members are greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Derek Moore.

“A founding member of our club, former Patron, past President and stalwart of the club for many years. RIP Derek.”

A funeral service will be held in Christ Church, Ballynure on Friday, October 16 at 12.30 pm with restrictions and adhering to social distancing, followed by interment in Ballyclare Cemetery.

A post on the Funeral Times website said: “Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to St John Ambulance NI c/o Fleming & Cuthbert Funeral Directors, 141 Mill Road, Ballyclare. He will be loved and remembered always.”
