Plans lodged for Claudy hydro turbine

PLANS have been lodged to build a mirco-hydroelectric turbine in the Sawel Mountain stream near Claudy.

The 18.5 kilowatt system will produce nearly 50,000 units of electricity per year and will connect to the local grid. This is enough to power 10 households.

Hydro NI has submitted an application to “develop a mirco-hydroelectric, renewable energy system (18.5kw) on the Sawel Mountain Stream, to supply electricity exported to the grid” at a location given by the developer as 250m east of 50 Crockahilly Road, Dreen, Park.
