Plans to set up new adult ADHD Group in Coleraine

Phoenix, which is based in the town’s Ballycastle Road has been running specialist interventions for young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder since September 2009.

The Project was developed by Causeway ADHD Support Group to provide a proactive, holistic and innovative support service to children and young people with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder and similar neuropsychiatric disorders.

Since it was formed the Project has received enquiries regarding support from adults with ADHD.

However due to pressure of time developing programmes for children and young adults only a couple of workshops have been held to date.

Now, as a number of young people who have completed group programmes are still requiring support in adulthood , the Project plans to introduce regular workshops during 2016.

A landmark partnership was formed with Adult ADHD NI who are based in Enniskillen when Kaye Cormack, Project Manager at Phoenix ADHD Project and her husband Donald Cormack, a director on the Management Board met with Niall Greene and Emma Weaver Founders and Directors of Adult ADHD NI in November.

Niall, who grew up with undiagnosed ADHD has agreed to help the Project set up the adult group in Coleraine.

He has been invited to speak at the Project’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, January 20at the Project’s premises at 1 Ballycastle Road, Coleraine at 7.30 pm. A couple of young people who have attended Phoenix ADHD Project’s Group Programmes will speak briefly about the difference the support has made to their lives.

This meeting is open to anyone with an interest in ADHD. They must however contact the office on 028 70002050 to confirm their attendance for catering purposes.
