Pledge to restore Post Office

THE Post Office has promised customers in Castlecaulfield they are “committed” to restoring the service to the branch.

The organisation said the closure of the village branch was due to circumstances beyond its control.

“We would like to apologise to customers for the temporary closure of Castlecaulfield Post Office”, said a Post Office spokeswoman.

“We would like to reassure customers we are committed to restoring services to the local community as soon as possible and are working closely with local authorities in order to do so.”

The statement follows a call from DUP MLA and local councillor, Maurice Morrow, for confirmation about the future of the Castlecaulfield branch.

Cllr Morrow said people in the village were left “disappointed and concerned” following the closure.

He added: “Without exception, everyone who spoke to me was full of praise for the retiring Post Master, Ivan Wells who has loyally served the local community for a significant period and over several generations of families. They have expressed their thanks and best wishes for his courteous and helpful assistance over these years.”
