Portballintrae raises more than £700 for Haiti Earthquake disaster

LAST Saturday they were kicking up their heels in Portballintrae to help raise money for the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

More than 700 was raised at the Arts and Crafts Fair and Line Dancing events. A raffle was also held with many generous donations including a 100 car valet from J.C. Halliday Citron of Bushmills and a Sunday lunch for two from the Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae, among over 30 prizes on offer.

“Every penny will help the relief effort,” said Joyce Rankin, vice chairman of the Portballintrae Residents’ Association.

“As a journalist, I have been to Haiti many times and know first hand the deprivation of the Haitian people.

“It is hard to fathom how people with nothing can have even less. We sincerely thank everyone who came out and donated their time and money. This relief effort will take a very long time to make a real impact but it is worth it.”
