£1.2m lottery funding for Faughan Valley project

THE Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme has received £1.2 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Rural Sinn Féin councillor Paul Fleming said: “The Faughan Valley Partnership Scheme has been successful in its application to HLF for over £1.2 million, significantly complementing the funding already in existence and which now amounts to almost £2 million.

“The Partnership will use this funding to deliver 26 capital and revenue projects linked specifically to Access, Biodiversity and Environmental projects over the next four years with delivery on the various schemes now scheduled to begin immediately.

“The work of the partnership will cover many areas such as the creation of new woodland sites and the restoration of ancient woodlands; structural repairs to listed buildings; the development of the Faughan Valley Heritage Trail; provision of grants to local schools and community organisations for workshops and educational play programmes; and the promotion of the unique heritage of the Faughan Valley.

“I would take this opportunity to congratulate Derry City Council, RAPID and the Woodland Trust for this successful application the Heritage Lottery Fund and I look forward to the implementation of this exciting, innovative and very worthwhile programme.”
