One of the biggest fund raisers for Eglinton Classic Car Club is the annual vehicle display, which this year takes place on April 12 at City of Derry Rugby Club.

A highly popular event attracting hundreds of visitors each year, the organisers hope that this year’s show will be the biggest yet.

“Over the past few years we have had up to 300 vehicles on display. These include cars, commercial vehicles, tractors, motor cycles and stationary engines,” said John Nixon.

“There are always good numbers of well known cars but we have always have some surprises, such as a De Lorean, a Morris Minor police car, complete with flashing lights and sirens as well as many customised cars,” he said.

There is always a huge display of Minis and Land Rovers.

Planned as a family day out, the annual show includes live demonstrations, bands, line dancing and Irish dancing displays, and a range of stalls providing refreshments and novelty items, fairground stalls and this year, for the first time, there will be a range of craft stalls.

“We are not the biggest club in the country in terms of membership but we are very proud of our vehicles,” said John.

This will be the 19 annual show and the organisers have appealed for support in aid of the work of Foyle Search and Rescue.
