Mr Boyd runs the 25-cow Slievenagh herd based at Portglenone. Established in 1979, the herd has sold bulls to a top of 20,000gns – realised by Slievenagh Talisman, reserve supreme champion at Perth in November 2007.He embarked on his second term as a society council member twelve months ago, and will serve two years as vice-president before he is due to take the presidency in 2016.
He is secretary of the Northern Ireland Simmental Cattle Breeders’ Club, and is stud manager at AI Services (NI) Ltd in Ballycraigy, Newtownabbey, where he has worked full-time for 26 years.
A well-known and respected pedigree breeder, Robin has judged the Simmental entry at the Royal, Royal Highland and Royal Welsh shows. He has also officiated in the show rings at the Perth Bull Sales, and the National Simmental Show in Peterborough, as well as all major shows in southern Ireland.
