Rural youth work celebrated at gala evening in Maghery

Over three hundred people made up of young people, rural youth workers, management committee members and invited guests attended the Craigavon Rural & Loughshore Gala Celebration Awards Evening at Maghery Youth Centre.

This unique rural youth work celebratory evening recognised the contribution of young people, their youth leaders and management committee personnel for their commitment in ensuring rural youth club provision is available for rural children and older youth throughout the Craigavon Rural & Loughshore Area.

A total of 16 recipients received awards from the Armagh/Banbridge/Craigavon Borough Lord Mayor Darryn Causby.

The awards presented to individuals and groups were just not recognition for them, but also for their combined youth organisation and community.

In all 12 youth organisations from Maghery Youth Club, Scotch Youth Club, St. Andrew’s CoI Parish, Milltown, Wolfe Tones Senior, Youth Club, Derrymacash, Sarsfields Youth Club, Derrytrasa, Donaghcloney Rural Needs Youth Club, 5th Portadown Boys Brigade, Tartaraghan, 7Derrys Youth Club, Aghagallon, St. Michael’s Junior Youth Club, Magheralin, The Red Door – two Locations Dollingstown/Magheralin - John Mitchell Youth Club, Gawley’s Gate, Derrymore and Tartaraghan Youth Club were part of the evening.

Some of the above youth organisations provided the entertainment element of the evening with the support of guest acts from Oasis Youth Club, Portadown, FADD (Fiona’s Dance & Drama Academy) based in central Craigavon and the brilliant duo of Sarah McAlpine (Harpist) and Samuel Kane (Violinist) from the EA Music School, Portadown make sure the performances from all young people were of the highest quality.

The Rural Youth Workers Co-ordination Team with the support of Scotch Street Youth Club Friends Forever Youth Group thank everyone who contributed to making this large scale rural event become a reality and a success.
