Sadness at passing of wife of well known farmer

Mrs Tate passed away at the Southern Area Hospice on Sunday October 12, following an illness.

Predeceased by her husband William on October 6, 1992, Mrs tate is survived by her loving brothers Leslie and Harry, sisters-in-law Lila and Barbara, devoted niece Carol and husband David, as well as nephews and nieces both at home and abroad.

Born on June 7, 1947, Mrs Tate was a daughter to the late Leslie and Susan Wilson, formerly of Reilly Street.

She was a member of the Banbridge Salvation Army corps in her early years and while attendingthe meetings she came to put her trust in Jesus at the tender age of ten.

Following her marriage to William Tate, a well known sheep farmer from Gransha, she joined Victoria Street Gospel Hall, becoming a full and active member throughout her life.

As a farmer’s wife, she soon adapted to her new life, developing a great interest in the sheep, often hand rearing the orphaned baby lambs.

She was also employed at the at the Lake View Service Station for a number of years, where she was held in high esteem. She was remembered as being very caring and helpful and always showing an interest in others.

Over the years, Mrs Tate was especially close to her niece Carol and husband David, who lived locally and who were a great source of strength for her during her illness.

The funeral was held on Wednesday October 15 from her home for a service of thanksgiving in Banbridge Gospel Hall, which was packed to capacity.

Mrs Tate’s favourite hymns - ‘When we reach our peaceful dwelling’ and ‘When my lifes work is ended’ - were sung, led by My Samuel Davidson.

The service was taken by Mr John Rogers and at the graveside by Mr David Radcliffe, who gave a challenging address.

Mrs Tate’s brother, Major Harry Wilson (Salvation Army) have a closing prayer.

Donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to the Southern Area Hospice c/o James Minnis and Sons, Funeral Directors, Bann House, 33 Castlewellan Road, Banbridge, BT32 4JQ. Interment took place at Banbridge New Cemetery and beautiful family tributes were placed on the grave. James Minnis and Son were entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
