Silver screen city could soon have 30-plus screens for film fans

PLANS lodged for another multi-screen cinema in Londonderry will bring the number of prospective and existing silver screens in the city up to 30 plus. The implication is that there may now soon be a cinema screen for every 4,000 people in the city

An application for the erection of 10-screen cinema with six restaurant units has been lodged for an address at Springtown Industrial Estate. The city is currently served by the seven screen Strand Omniplex and a number of small independent cinemas such as the Orchard Cinema and the Nerve Centre.

But plans for a new six screen cinema in Drumahoe, a new seven screen cinema at Pennyburn’s Brunswick Superbowl and the new 10 screen cinema at Springtown, will pile on the competition and is welcome progress for local film lovers.
