Terry (31), whose 10-year-old daughter Clodagh has autism, will be scaling the Grand Paradiso, a mountain in north west Italy followed by Mount Blanc, a short distance over the border in France.

He said: “I’ve put in a lot of training. I’ve been up the Mournes any possible time I can go. I train at Columbia Gym in Lurgan. I do a lot of high intensity training there.”

The Irwin Drive man added: “I’m in good shape. I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been but also the fittest.

“I love keeping fit. Fitness is the food of nature.

“I’ve been climbing mountains the last six years. For this challenge I’ve been training for about eight months.”

Of the upcoming climb he said: “We go on Wednesday, June 11. We make our first climb of Grand Paradiso - we’ll stop in the foothills and stay the night to acclimatise then go to the summit the next day.

“There’s a rest day before climbing Mount Blanc. That will take three days.”

Terry, who owns his own scaffolding company, has receive generous sponsorship from Paul Scott, Operations Director of Paul O’Brien Solar Installations. This week he handed over a cheque for £1,500 sponsorship to Terry.

Regarding fundraising, Terry will be holding a charity night this Friday in the Cellar Bar.

There will be a raffle on the night with prizes including a hat signed by Valentino Rossi, lifetime membership of Columbia Gym, vouchers from House of Sport and Shapeshifter nutrition.
