The charitable efforts of the 59 recipients saw over £11,000 being collected for 30 different charities. nursing homes, mission teams and youth organisations, while their project work included music, religion, politics, eating disorders and the influence the media exerts were some of their research topics.

Sarah Morrison, from Ebrington Company, was one of 10 girls selected to represent GBNI at the Royal Wedding, due to her performance in the Queen’s Award.

Guest speaker for the evening was Alice McAlary from Alliance Youth Works, who said: “Tonight I am thinking of these very capable young women who have given time energy and many giftings to seek, serve and follow Christ and how they can be women of influence in their families, GB companies, communities and the wider world. The story of Lydia can be found in the New Testament in the Bible, in Acts 16: 11-15. Lydia was a professional woman, prayerful, proactive and persuasive. She used her position strategically to reach out to others for Jesus. Remembering the position of women at that time this was an amazing example of how spirit-filled Christian women can influence those around them. My message to these Queen’s Award girls this evening is to go for it: Be a Lydia.”

The GB offers a balanced programme for girls aged from three to 18, combining Bible teaching, physical activity, community and church service, along with many opportunities to learn new skills and take on new challenges.

GBNI is happy to assist any churches, who do not currently have GB, to start up a Company. Visit the GB website at www.gbni.co.uk, email [email protected] or telephone 028 94548054.
