Turner coup a ‘tremendous homage’

TOURISM Minister Arlene Foster spoke of her delight at the major coup achieved in attracting the Turner Prize to Londonderry - the first occasion it will have been held outside Great Britian - for UK City of Culture 2013.

She said it was a “tremendous homage” to the local tourism industry during a debate at the Stormont Assembly.

She mentioned the event in the context of events happening in the North West in conjunction with the UK City of Culture.

“I was particularly delighted to read recently that the Turner Prize is coming to the city of Londonderry, as it will be first time that the event has actually left Great Britain.

“That is a tremendous homage to what is going on in the tourism industry here and particularly in the north-west.

“I very much look forward to supporting all those events,” she stated.
