Twin Towers hero honoured in East Tyrone

Jim Sullivan from Brooklyn, who has recently discovered long lost cousins in Dungannon, was in Tyrone to receive an Aodh Ó Néil medallion from the Tyrone Hibernians in recognition of the eighteen members of the American Ancient Order of Hibernians who were killed at the World Trade Center on that fateful day. The presentation was made at the Kinturk Cultural Centre near the shores of Lough Neagh a week after the Hibernian Day parade to the same location, which Mr Sullivan was unable to attend due to a prior engagement.

The President of the Tyrone A.O.H. Gerry McGeough made the presentation, which was attended by other officers of the County Board.

Attired in the Dress Uniform of the New York Fire Department, Mr Sullivan created quite a stir among other patrons out for a meal at the Kinturk Centre and he found himself much in demand for a series of group photos.

A member of the New York King’s County A.O.H. Mr Sullivan thanked the Tyrone Hibernians for the honour and said that the highly influential National Board of the A.O.H. in the United States were firmly behind the Tyrone Hibernians and the County President in their endeavours to strengthen the bonds between the Order on both sides of the Atlantic.
