Altan’s Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh sings bittersweet songs in city
ALTAN’S Maireád Ní Mhaonaigh sings the Martin Tourish penned An Ghealóg (The Bunting) in Londonderry on Friday (July 19).
As she explains, it’s a sad lament for a wee bird that died in cold weather.
She follows it with the classic Gleanntáin Ghlas’ Ghaoth Dobhair, written by her father Proinsias; an emigrant’s song encapsulating the homesickness of Donegal Glaswegians.
