According to the protestors: “The G8 meeting stands for attacks on public spending, drone killings, fracking, cuts in services to the elderly and the ill, internment and torture in Guantanamo Bay, polluting the earth and the atmosphere.

“There is a better way. It involves ordinary people refusing to accept what the G8 wants to impose. They believe they have all the power. But we have people power. We have to show them we won’t be brow-beaten, fooled or bought off.”

The protestors also accuse the media of suggesting the G8 will bring jobs and dismiss this as propaganda.

“A short-term boost to Fermanagh business won’t make a lasting difference - even in Fermanagh,” the group claims.

A number of buses sponsored by the trade unions Unite and NIPSA will be leaving Foyle Street for Enniskillen following a rally in the city centre at 1pm on Monday (June 17).

“Campaigners against closure of homes for the elderly, protestors against military interventions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria etc., everybody concerned about global warming - we should all be in Enniskillen on Monday.

“We want the march to be as big as possible and totally peaceful. Everybody will be made welcome,” the organisers state.
