Union calls meeting to defend Causeway A&E

A public meeting will take place on Wednesday 4th July at 7.30pm in Coleraine Leisure Centre to organise a community action campaign to defend acute services at Causeway Hospital.

This meeting has been scheduled to take place following a meeting of the Northern Health Board where proposals for the future of Causeway Hospital will be discussed.

Causeway Trades Council has organised the meeting.

Secretary Rodger Doherty said: “Numerous groups and individuals have contacted me expressing concern and wanting to fight to defend Causeway A&E. A broad based community campaign encompassing all of the interests in this area is clearly the way to go. Therefore, Causeway Trades Council has facilitated this meeting to enable the whole community to agree on what action we will take.”

He called on everyone in the area to attend the meeting, saying “Whilst this meeting has been facilitated by the Trades Council the campaign to save the hospital must be community led. Individuals, community groups, businesses and politicians - if you want to save Causeway Hospital then I urge you to come along and add your voice”.

The meeting is open to everyone in the catchment area (Coleraine, Ballymoney and Moyle Council areas) of the Causeway Hospital.

Further details of the meeting will be released next week.
