UUP MLA Sandra Overend said it was an attack on the families of those who are buried there, and her sympathies were with them.

“But it is also an attack on the entire community in Mid-Ulster, who have been let down by these mindless thugs,” she said.

“It is shocking to think that these types of crimes are still being carried out.”

DUP MLA Ian McCrea said these types of actions should be condemned by all sides of the community, especially given the location of these mindless acts.

“I have already spoken with the Chief Executive of Cookstown District Council to ensure that this graffiti is removed immediately,” he added.

Both politicians commended the police in their quick response in ensuring that those responsible were caught within a short period of time.
