VAN AT THE CASTLE?

The Coleraine Times can EXCLUSIVELY reveal that promoters for the Northern Irish singer songer-writer have approached Coleraine Borough Council about the possibility of a concert at the historic setting of Dunluce Castle.

We understand that a short meeting has already taken place between Van’s promoters and Council officials about possible opportunities for a one-off concert later this year.

Dunluce Castle is one of Northern Ireland’s heritage gems and provides stunningly picturesque views over the north coast.

It is here that ‘Van the Man’ has always dreamed of playing.

With confirmed gigs in Cheltenham and County Down in May, Van’s hopes of a gig at Dunluce would be a huge economic boost for the area.

Morrison was born in Belfast in 1945 and was raised on music from his father’s collection of blues, country and gospel songs.

After early success with the group Them, he became an internationally acclaimed singer with hits including Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance and Tupelo Honey.

He was given an OBE for services to the music industry and has won six Grammys, a Brit and an Ivor Novello.

He has also been entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

A Coleraine Borough Council spokesman said yesterday that they were “not in a position to comment at this stage.”
