Video: Larne High School A Level and AS Level results day

Curriculum Co-ordinator Lynne Milligan stated: “The students have done well and we are very happy with the school’s results.

“The students who wanted to go to university have got their places.

“The results are similar to last year’s and they are what we were expecting.

“We have 19 pupils this year and there was a 100 per cent pass rate last year and this year as well.

“We are pleased and we would like to offer our congratulations to our pupils and wish them all the very best for the future.”

A Level pupil Jamie Mawhinney said he was “pleased” after clinching As in Business Studies and Sports Studies as well as a C in ICT.

He will now progress to the University of Ulster at Jordanstown in September to undertake a Business Studies course.

His proud mum Michelle commented: “It’s fantastic, I’m as proud as punch, it has been an anxious time and more for me than for him!”

Fellow A-Level pupil Chloe Swan said she had done “better than she thought she would” after achieving a merit in Business Studies and a pass in Sports Studies. She will now continue to the University of Ulster in Coleraine to study Events Management.

A Level student David Clarke, who plays in a local band, commented: “I have done better than I thought I would.

“I got an A in Business Studies, a D in ICT and an E in AS Level Health and Social Care. I don’t now what the future holds yet and I will be looking for work.”

Outgoing Head Girl Emma Hobbs clinched a D in Geography, a B in Health and Social Care and a C in Technology.

“I will be going to Stirling University to study Nursing,” she revealed.

“I needed two Cs to get in and I did it. I will be sad to leave Larne High School as I’ve had a great time here but I’m excited about the future.”

Meanwhile, AS Level students were also reaping the results of their hard work.

Ross Kirk achieved a B in Technology and a B in Business Studies, as well as a C in Sports Studies.

“I have got the grades to go into the Royal Engineers and I am hoping to be attached to the Paratroopers as an electrician,” he revealed.

“I am hoping to have a start date for myself in September or March.”

His mum Naomi Copeland laughed: “I’m really, really pleased because he’s worked hard but I’ve worked harder!”

Friends Megan McMichael, Ross Wallace, Jaye Stewart, Nicole Burns and Rachel Woods sported broad smiles after opening their results.

“I got a B in ICT, a B in Health and Social Care and we haven’t got our Art results yet,” revealed Megan.

“I definitely did better than expected. I will come back to Larne High to study the same subjects at A-Level.”

Ross also said he was happy after having achieved a B in ICT and a C in Health and Social Care as he awaited his Art results.

“I will come back to study the same results at A-Level,” he said.

Rachel and Nicole said they were both “pleased” after each achieved an A in Business Studies, a D in Health and Social Care and a C in ICT.

Jaye was also celebrating after clinching an A in Sports Studies, a B in Health and Social Care and an A in Business Studies.

“I was only really expecting to do so well in Sports Studies,” she stated.

“I am going to come back to Larne High for my A-Levels and hopefully I will get a place at university to study Early Childhood Studies.

“These results make us feel more positive for our A-Levels.”
