Wind in the Willows at Cumber Claudy

SINCE February pupils and staff of Cumber Claudy Primary School have been preparing to take to the stage with a musical production of Kenneth Grahame's classic riverbank tale, The Wind in the Willows.

During the past few weeks school has been buzzing with the sound of children practising their dialogue, songs and dancing. Props of cars and caravans were made, scenery painted and children measured for costumes.

This year the installation of a wall-mounted digital projector and sound system greatly enhanced the stage setting with a series of digitally produced backdrops.

The commitment of all the children in the show was very evident on performance nights, but a special mention must be made of the four main characters – sociable Ratty, sensible Mole, exuberant Toad and wise old Badger who demonstrated from the beginning, outstanding levels of dedication and energy in their roles.

As usual all the pupils and staff pulled together to make this a show to be proud of and it is evident that the children have grown in confidence throughout the experience.

A special word of thanks was extended to Mrs Nanette Eakin, School Secretary who helped oversee the production.

Mrs Smyth, the Principal thanked the parents for their support and said: "By encouraging drama in this way you are developing personal benefits and many fond memories that will stay with your children."
