With impending welfare reform and job losses throughout the region Christmas can be a very difficult time for may local families, bearing this in mind FWIN are once again launching a Christmas appeal with a local emphasis.

We are asking people to buy an extra present when Christmas shopping this year for families in need, for children aged 0 - 16 years. You can drop in a single item, wrapped or unwrapped (stating clearly if it is for a boy or girl and what age group if it’s wrapped). If you prefer to drop in a ‘shoe box’ or gift bag, this will be fine as long as it is clearly labelled.

FWIN co-ordinator, Catherine Cooke, said: “For most of us Christmas is a wonderful time of year full of fun and happiness, however for some local families it’s a time of struggle and difficulty.

“We know from last year’s very successful Christmas appeal that the need is definitely out there.

“Last Christmas we got a great response from local people and I have no doubt that the generosity of this city will once again come to the fore.

“There are children throughout this city that need our help and this appeal is a great opportunity for everyone to show support for those in need and bring a smile to a child’s face this Christmas,” said Catherine.

Those wishing to donate should label it, stating if it is for a boy or girl and what age they are using this guide: Newborn to two years of age; children aged three to five; children aged 2ix to 10, children aged 10 to 12, teenagers aged 13 to 14 and teenagers aged 15 to 16.

All gifts can be dropped off at the Holywell Building, 8-14 Bishop Street.

Gifts will be distributed throughout the city to those who need them by local charities.
