You're the one that I want - Cara to share role of Rizzo in Grease show

A Portadown teenager has successfully landed the role of Rizzo in the Moyraverty Arts and Drama Society (MADS) summer production of Grease this month.

Fifteen-year-old Cara Hegarty, a pupil St Catherine’s College in Armagh, will share the role with Craigavon girl Aine Morris.

Cara will be joined on stage by another Portadown teenager, Dylan Breen, who will perform as Doody in all performances.

She will perform on the Thursday, September 15, performance and the Saturday and Sunday evening performances.

In all, a cast of 40 young people from the Portadown, Lurgan, Brownlow and surrounding districts will star in the show.

Show producer Kieran Corr said, “We are all delighted for Cara who performed so well at our auditions. Cara is a lovely singer and a fine actor who has come through the ranks at MADS!

“Previous shows include performing in our Big Band Concert at The Civic Centre and The Evil Stepmother in Cinderella. She certainly has a bright future ahead of her.

“Dylan is just 15 years old but is a fabulous actor and he will also play the guitar live in this production. Previous shows include playing Peter Pan, Sebastian in The Little Mermaid, Baby John in West Side Story to name just a few.”

Both teenagers are really looking forward to the 1970s show which features classic songs made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, including You’re the One that I Want, Grease Lightning, We Go Together and Hopelessly Devoted to You.

Previous summer shows produced by MADS! include Joseph, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables School Edition and West Side Story.

The production team consists of Claire Louise McMahon, John Corry and Caitriona Corr who has returned from London to be the vocal coach.

The show runs in Portadown Town Hall Theatre from Thursday, September 15 to Sunday, September 18 with an 8pm start and there will also be a matinee show on Sunday at 3pm.

Tickets are on sale from Winnie’s Newsagents, Woodhouse Street, Portadown; Print Business Supplies in Lurgan; Greene’s Nisa Local in Brownlow Centre and Miss Mac Dance Studio, Moore’s Lane, Lurgan.

Tickets are priced at £10 with a concession rate of £8 for pensioners and under 16s.
