A washout at Ardglass but Bobby was able to cope

The fifth round of the Mid-Ulster Senior Alliance was played at Ardglass last Monday. For the second year in succession, it was almost a total washout.

Now Ardglass is a beautiful course and a pleasure to play on a good day. But when it rains and the wind blows and it is cold, it is certainly not very pleasant.

That’s the excuses out of the way, now for the scores.

Bobby Geddis was the top scorer for Banbridge with 34 points. While everyone else was struggling coming to the finish, Bobby managed to par the last four holes and that improved his scorecard to no end.

Peter Hillen gave a long soliloquy on how badly he had played when, in actual fact, he was the second best player on the Banbridge team.

He had 32 points, which, on the day, was brilliant.

The other two counting scores came from Roy Rankin (31 points) and the ever-young Sam Wilkinson (29 points).

The other four players were Brian Mulholland, Tom Fee, Sydney Pepper and John Poots. They all put an X on their cards for no publicity.

The Banbridge team total of 126 points meant a drop down the league table. Lisburn, Tandragee, Spa and Lurgan are all battling for the top spot.

This was a very lucrative little tournament for Declan Barry.

He played the nine holes course in one over par gross and won the top prize.

And, not only that, he had the only “2” on the day and he pocketed a sizeable rollover pot. Nice work, Declan!

On this occasion, Joe just managed to stay ahead of Bobby and Nigel.

The “2’s” pot was shared between Bobby Geddis, Colin Kennedy and Paul McAleavey.

1st - Joe Glass (14) 35 points.

2nd - Bobby Geddis (13) 34 points.
