A Win and a loss for Rathfriland U11s at Carnbane

Rathfriland U11s 0

Camlough 2

RATHFRILAND played Camlough in their first game at the Carnbane Complex on Saturday.

The lads started at bit slowly with Camlough having most of the possession but the defence of Mark Weir, Sam Cantley and John Dickson where making some good interceptions and Jack Moffett in nets was getting good distance on the ball for Jamie Fitzpatrick and James Boyd to run onto.

James came close with Jamie crossing the ball in only for his shot to go wide.

Camlough were first to score, breaking from the right. Mark made an attempt to block the pass but the forwards shot crept in to past Jack at full stretch.

The second half started with Benjamin Murphy and Jonathan McDowell coming on Rathfriland who were still creating chances with Sam’s long range drive just wide of the mark and Jake Laffen’s effort saved.

Camlough got their second early on with a fine shot beating Jack at the near post. The game levelled out towards the end but the blues of Rathfriland couldn’t claw any goals back.

IN their second game of the morning Rathfriland played a much bigger looking side.

The lads got stuck in from the start with Benjamin and Jonathan getting some good tackles in.

Benjamin broke down the centre for James who shot just past the post. John worked hard all game by closing Brookvale down quickly. The backs pushed up higher with Sam getting more time on the ball, opening up the defence for Mark to have a shot on goal.

The half ended goalless with a good team performance.

After the break Jamie Fitzpatrick and Jake Laffen came on with the changes making an immediate effect. Jake passed to Jamie who laid it off to Mark who beat his maker and fired the ball home.

The lads kept the ball moving and defended well against Brookvale who never gave up and played on to the last. It was a good win for the U11s and a good team effort from front to back.
