Another injury setback for St Paul’s midfielder Murnin

He had to be carried from the action last Sunday against Carrickcruppin when his troublesome hamstring injury flared up again.

The former Armagh Minor star Had just recently returned from a period of injury which has plagued his career over the past number of seasons, Andrew hadn’t been seen in a St Paul’s jersey since last season when the Lurgan side played Killeavey in the Championship but had just returned and figured in recent matches.

Murnin was expected to be starting in the Saints pending Championship encounter against Eire Og which along with three other local derbies will take place the weekend after next.

St Paul’s will play Eire Og in the Intermediate series on Sunday week and their chances of getting a result from that particular game will have been greatly enhanced following their somewhat surprise win over Carrickcruppin last Sunday at Taghnevan.

Although The Lurgan side had previously beaten League Champions Maghery last weekend’s win would have to be the highlight of their first division campaign to date.

Missing both Ciaran and Peadar Nash St Paul’s secured a one point win over the South Armagh men with goals from wing back Ryan McCaughley and Ryan Lawless.

An excellent penalty strike from Niall McPartland sealed the win which has thrown the Saints a possible relegation lifeline. Up front Darren Fox was in excellent form and midfielder Phelim O’Neill was the outstanding player on view.

St Pauls however still face an uphill battle for survival. All their three remaining ties are away, against Ballymacnab, Granemore and Shane O’Neills.

The Teghnevan men will need at least two wins from their remaining games to have any chance of survival.
