Archery club taking a charity shot at cancer

This year the recipient was Macmillan Cancer Support and on Sunday morning archers from around the Province gathered at the Vale Centre in Greysteel to show their support for a very worthy cause.

Archers over the age of 13 lined up 20 yards away from the target while the youngsters shot from 10 yards.

Unlike other competitions the Pink Arrow Shoot is not about who is the best shot but who can raise the most money.

As usual, the kids excelled.

That is not to say that there wasn’t some fine shooting on display as well.

With two Northern Ireland Champions in attendance a high standard of archery was guaranteed.

Paige Heath who is the under 19 female champion recorded the highest Freestyle Recurve score of the day while Simon McKelvey the Freestyle Compound champion didn’t miss the centre of the target even once and recorded a maximum possible score of 320.

After a very enjoyable few hours the scores were added up and so was the cash raised.

A total of £701 was donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and was gratefully received by Lisa McGrogan the Area Fundraising Manager for Macmillan.

She thanked everyone at the club for their hard work she told them that all of the money raised would be spent locally at the new Cancer Support Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital.

The archery club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part and to the local businesses who donated prizes for the event.
