Ballymena trio star for Ulster u-16s

BALLYMENA were very proud to have three of their young stars playing for the Ulster under 16 squad in Dublin on Saturday and Sunday.

Ballymena Academy students, Sara Allen and Emma Kernoghan and Larne Grammar pupil Ruth Maguire, were chosen to represent their province in the two day tournament held at Alexandra College and helped Ulster retain the title for a third year in a row.

Sara plays on the ladies firsts, while new recruit Ruth will have to wait until her 15th birthday in the new year before she can play in the senior league.

Emma, who was given the added honour of vice captain, is the youngest of the trio at only 13 years old.

Ulster led after the first day, having beat South East 4-0 and Munster 3-1; their better goal difference keeping them ahead of Leinster who also won both their matches.

On the second day, Ulster first met Connacht whom they beat 1-0. This meant their second and final match against Leinster was to be the decider for the trophy.
