Ballymoney boys get the blues after Dergview defeat

BALLYMONEY United manager, Joe McCall, admits his players had a touch of the blues on Friday following their defeat at home to Dergview.

However, even in defeat, manager McCall felt that the result flattered the opposition at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

"We hit the post twice and created a couple of other good chances. They never really troubled our 'keeper and it ws only in the last ten minutes that they finally got the upper hand," McCall said.

Ballymoney were much the better team at the outset and McMullan was within a whisker of getting on the scoresheet only to see his shot come off the post.

Randal Reid also came close, but he shot weakly and the 'keeper had no difficulty saving the effort.

Dergview edged ahead in the second half when a pass from Lafferty found Ryan Campbell who had the easy task of slotting the ball into an empty net.

The second goal had quality written all over it when Leckey raced up the pitch before squaring to Dickson who scored.

Although disapointed, McCall was happy to take away some positive aspects from the game.

"If we had taken our chances we probably would have won the game," he said.

"The players were down, but they're a young bunch and they'll come back. I have no qualms about the result."

Paul Keane, central midfielder, is out injured but David Gage and Hugo Boyle played for the Reserves on Saturday and will be added to the squad this week.

"They are one of the big teams in our Division is it will be a big ask for us. But we will see what we can do," McCall said.
