Ballymoney’s Sherman thunders to National championship medal in Dublin

Bringing the total to five National medals to Ballymoney CC - the most National Championship medals ever won by any club in the area.

The Ballymoney CC Biesty’s Centra “Race of the Falling Leaves” circuit TT saw a lot of new faces getting the feel for competition cycling and in preparation forn the new season.

Speed merchants Steven McAllister and Mervyn Linton were fastest with times of 23.32 and 24.06 for the tough and relentless Kirkhills course. This course has a record set by the NEW 25 mile TT Vets record holder John Madden, who on Sunday set a time of 49.41 for 25 miles.

John blasted round Kirkhills in 22.53. But it looks like the Biesty’s boys are getting closer.

With the BCC Race Team seniors building up their ranks the field of 18 competitors saw eight of them under 16 years of age.

Riders - like silver and bronze medal winner’s Lauren Laverty and Rowan Montgomery, Robbie Doherty who is the 7th top schoolboy at U15 level in Ireland and 3rd in Ulster. New comers, 10 year old Clark Logan, Jonny Weir, Callum and Cameron Wallace, Andrew Harris and Jason McLaughlin - were back out again after the National Youth Championships.

The LungBuster 5 mile TT

This Wednesday evening on the Ballybogey Rd, BCC Biesty’s Centra are holding the “Famous” round two of the LungBuster two race series.

Starting on the main Road between Ballymoney and Ballybogey, it turns at the Portrush Road roundabout and back towards Ballybogey again. BCC are inviting as many members out to support our young riders on the busy roads. First rider is off at 7pm sharp.

This Sunday (14th September) Ballymoney CC are hosting yet another open event: The Ulster 100 mile TT Championships at Woodgreen between Ballymena and Antrim.

Sign on is from 8am and the race starts at 9am. Can as many BCC members come along to not only help out but to support the Ballymoney CC riders taking part.

Last year saw Ballymoney rider Bryan McKinney get the silver medal and the gold medal team prize as well.
