Bann’s girls show up well in Belfast

Bann Rowing Club girls travelled to Belfast on Saturday 24th May for Belfast Rowing Clubs Sprint Regatta.

Pleasant rowing conditions and exciting races made for a good day’s racing.

The girls aged between 14 and 18 had a very successful day winning a total of seven out of the 10 events entered.

Fiona Chestnutt and Hannah Scott battled through the rounds to respectively win the junior 16 sculls and the junior 15 sculls.

Fiona and Hannah then teamed up to beat stiff opposition from fellow Bann girls, Methody Rowing Club and Belfast Rowing Club to win the junior 16 double sculls.

The junior 16 eight made up of Fiona Chestnutt, Alana ODonovan, Megan Scott, Hannah Scott, Alice Coulter, Leah Wylie, Anna Morrison and Katie Thompson were expertly coxed by Mollie Earl to win the final against Methody Rowing Club.

Megan, Alana, Leah and Alice rowed again in the junior 16 quad sculls, beating Methody in the final.

The junior 15 double sculls was won with ease by Anna Morrison and Rebecca Moffatt.

Leah Boal and Alex West progressed through the rounds to win the final of the junior 18 double sculls.

The junior 14 girls were beaten in their final when racing against an older Methody crew in the junior 15 quad sculls.

Coaches and girls all enjoyed the day.

Congratulations to everyone involved and congratulations also to Erin Barry who was racing for Ireland at the European Junior Championships in Belguim.
