Belles take on supreme challenge as the local ladies aim to ‘Race across America’ next year

A group of inspirational local women called ‘The Belles’ are aiming to take part in ‘Race Across America’ (RAAM) next June in aid of Northern Ireland’s only Breast Cancer Charity ‘Pretty in Pink’.

The race is one of the most respected and longest running endurance sports events in the world covering 3000 miles within a cut off of 9 days.

The Belles, a four-woman cycling and multi-sport team, are Julie McCorry, Andrea Harrower, Taryn McCoy and Cathy Booth.

Andrea and Taryn are both members of Dromara Cycling Club.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Margaret Tolerton and Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter were pleased to recently meet The Belles and learn of their challenge.

The Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, said: “I am delighted to lend my support to the Belles who have taken on so many challenges recently and the Race Across America, that they have set their sights on, is a immense one and I wish them well with it. They are remarkable ladies with such vision and stamina.”

Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, said: “The Belles are actively seeking sponsorship for their latest charity quest and I would urge anyone who is interested in supporting the Belles and the ‘Pretty in Pink’ charity to contact them to discuss the options. The team spirit that the Belles have is a great example to our City.”
