Bellew tames the wet conditions at Galgorm Castle

After heavy overnight rain some fairways were very wet, making playing conditions difficult. Golfers also had to contend with a steady and persistent drizzle throughout the day.

Division 1 turned into an exciting finish for the runner-up position with six players in contention for the placing.

Through four Raymond Ardis held a one point lead from Mal Bellew, Lyle Foster and Mark Hamilton with another trio of players – David Keys, Gary Jackson and Simon Kennedy – a further point behind.

After the par three Treasury, Bellew had moved up and overtaken Ardis to lead by one point.

Keys, Jackson, Foster, Hamilton and Kennedy were another point behind with only two holes left to play.

Bellew came home with two pars to win by two points. Keys (two pars), Jackson (two pars), Foster (two pars), Hamilton (two pars), Kennedy (two pars) and Ardis (par, bogey) all finished together and with a better last three Keys emerged as runner- up.

After three in Division 3 James McClintock had opened up a two point advantage from Sam MacDonald, David King and James Campbell (‘ding’ at the third).

Through six McClintock still playing par golf through four and five remained one point ahead (after a ‘ding’ at six) from MacDonald (parred five and six). King and Campbell were another point down.

McClintock finished bogey, bogey, par and was joined by MacDonald (par, par, bogey) and with a better last six MacDonald took first place. King (par, double bogey, par) and Campbell (par, par, double bogey) finished one point behind.

Best gross was won by Neil Candlish with 18 points.

Twos were recorded by: M Bellew, D Bamford, D Martin, D Gillan, J Logan, N McAlynn, SJ Graham, J Keys, G Lynn, G Marshall, I McCappin and I Stewart.

BACK 9

There was a close encounter over the back 9 between Ronald Beckington and Gary Boyd.

The scores were level through 12. Boyd then took a one point advantage with a par at the Devils Elbow and held his lead through 15.

A birdie on 16 by Beckington saw him take a one point advantage over Boyd. Boyd drew level at 17 which he parred to Beckington’s bogey and as both bogeyed the last they finished all square but with a better last three Beckington took the spoils.
