Bobby takes fifth place at St Patrick’s Day race

On St. Patrick’s Day Clan Eireann CC promoted their first open event of the season, the Clann Eireann Cup.

This was for A3 category riders only and seventy riders turned out to race over the 75 kilometres of the Derrymacash course. By the halfway stage a break had opened up led by 61-year-old Mickey Carroll from Ballymena Chain Reaction. Upcoming Junior, Curtis Gilmore from Team Madigan, was one of the few able to go with Carroll in the initial stages but he finally dropped back into the bunch.

The A3 bunch chased hard but their efforts were in vain as Carroll held on to a 30 second lead to take victory. Paul McCarter from Omagh Wheelers dug deep and he too escaped the pack to take a well-deserved second place. The final placings came down to a bunch gallop with Mark Downey of the Roche Development Team taking third ahead of Tom Simmons of Glendale. Bobby Kane of Bann Wheelers was very pleased with fifth place as the points gained now see him move to the ranks of the A2 riders. Well done Bobby.
Yet another excellent performance by Bobby in a very competitive race and congratulations on his jump up to the A2 Class.
