Both 18 year-old Stephen Cunningham and 17 year-old Liam Nugent were narrowly beaten un the Ulster Novice Intermeediate finals held at the famous Dockers Club in Belfast.

In his 67 kilo semi-final Liam boxed very well beating M Kambule from Lisburn. In the final Liam came up against a very strong opponent C McFadden from the Dunfanaghy Club in Donegal and after three hard fought rounds lost on a points decision.

Stephen got a bye into the 81 kilo final where he met T Campbell from the Immaculata Club in Belfast.

This was another tough fight in which Campbell finished in a bit stronger to win by decision.

This was a big step up for both lads and the represented the club very well.

Last weekend then the club travelled to Banbridge with two boxers, 12 year old Chloe Tracey, daughter of three time Irish Champion and club coach Des Tracey) and 13 year old Jude Lagan, to box in the Boy/ Girl Under 11/12/13 Nine County Championships.

Both boxers came home with gold medals. Chloe won her fight by a walkover and Jude boxed brilliantly in the final against M Monaghan from the St Agnes Club in Belfast.

Lagan was just too strong for his opponent and after giving him two standing counts in the second round the referee stopped the contest.

Both these boxers train very hard and never miss training. This is what it takes to win medals.

The next few weeks will be busy with the Boys Under 14/15/16 Nine County Championships taking place in Newtownstewart.
