Bringing spirit of Bruce Lee to Clann Eireann

Clann Eireann Youth Club JKD Group were paid a visit by renowned martial arts instructors Daniel and Marie Lonero from the famous Inosanto Academy, Los Angeles, USA.

Together they train most days with Bruce Lee’s top student Guro Dan Inosanto in a variety of Martial Arts including JKD, Kickboxing, Kali and Silat.

According to host Martin O’Neill they had a blast over the weekend. He said: “These are two of the top people in JKD. They’re from LA which is the mecca for martial arts.

“JKD is short for Jeet Kune Do. It translates as The Way Of The Intercepting Fist and was founded by Bruce Lee himself.

“JKD adapts to the practitioner instead of the practitioner having to adapt to the martial art. It’s the best martial art for the over 50s, like myself,” said the 58-year-old, who began training in martial arts in 1975. “Bruce Lee’s number one protege is Guro Dan Inosanto who is an incredible martial artist and a man I’m privileged to have as my instructor. Last year we took a team over to his international instructor conference in Rome. It was exhausting but exhilarating.”

The club meets for training in JKD, Kali and BJJ every Tuesday and Wednesday evening and all are welcome.

“We have quite a small club. We don’t want to create a McDojo where you pack in as many as you can. Smaller numbers mean people can learn properly.”
