Changes aplenty for Lynch

City of Derry are back to First Trust Ulster Championship rugby this weekend when they host Malone (KO 2.30pm).

Buoyed by last weekend’s impressive home win over Instonians the Judges Road management team will be looking for another victory.

Head coach Bevan Lynch will use the full strength and depth of the City of Derry squad as he looks to give some players some game time.

“We will be looking to make significant changes to the team against Malone. I want to give some of the guys some game time. This weekend’s home game gives me a chance to rotate the squad and give the elder statesmen of the team a rest.”

With the AIL on a break until the end of January the New Zealander wants to use the Ulster Championship games to build up a winning momentum.

“This weekends opponents Malone have recruited very well with a couple of South Africans on board. They will want to avenge last seasons dismal performance and will come to Derry to win.

“We are after a good performance and we don’t want to digress from last weeks performance.”

City of Derry sit in third postion in the First Trust Ulster Championship and in their last game they hammered Armagh 37-0. Lynch wants more of the same from his squad this weekend: “We are determined to put in another quality performance. Last week in the AIL we got our bonus point.

“We were strong in the lineout and we cut out the silly errors. We played well and made the right decisions when it mattered. It was not a perfect performance but much improved over recent weeks.

“Our last game in the Ulster’s we won but Malone are a good side and it will be another tight game but home advantage could prove vital.”
