Charlie leads the field at Hazelbank ‘bunny hop’

At last Wednesday’s Queen’s ‘Race Round the River’ 5k, Chris Davis led the way for East Coast, completing the 3.1miles in a new personal best of 19:03 (166th). Allyson O’Toole and Adele Neill both impressed with new personal bests in 19:45 (22nd lady) and a 20:06 (30th lady, 5th V40) respectively.

John Steele finished in 357th in 22:13 and more personal bests were achieved when Sandy Plumb, Tracey Parke, Valerie Lyttle and Sally McKeown all crossed the finish line. Plumb ran well to finish in 23:41 (426th) followed by Parke who claimed 100th lady in 24:58. Training partners McKeown and Lyttle crossed the line side by side in 29:35 to take 130th and 132nd.

On Saturday, Sandy Plumb joined nearly 2,000 competitors at the SPAR Omagh Half Marathon. Sandy performed well over the undulating course in very windy conditions, clocking a time of 1:57:49 for the distance to take 1,181st place overall.

On Sunday, members joined over 300 other competitors at the Rabbit Run 5k in Hazelbank Park, Newtownabbey, organised in aid of the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

As well as the 5k event there was also a ‘Bunny Hop’ 1 mile junior race. In the 1 mile event. East Coast Cheetah and recently crowned Junior XC Series (Mini Boys) winner, Charlie Patterson, put in the performance of the day to lead the field home.

In the 5k event, junior star Kelly Patterson proved she is one to watch when she claimed 11th place in the ladies category with a finish time of 28:37. Valerie Lyttle followed in 32:20 to finish as 44th lady.

Also on Sunday, junior multi-sport star Callum Sittlington was in action once again at the Lisburn Duathlon. After covering the first section in a 14:02 clocking, Callum completed the cycle in 30:35 before running 15:07 for the final two miles, finishing in a total time of 1:01:07 to take 14th place overall.
