Chloe wins Woods sister battle on way to Munster double

Chloe Woods, who had a successful few days with victories in both the Alpha and Leinster Easter Tournaments.

Chloe went head-to head with her sister Paige in the semi-final of the singles but it was the older sibling who was to come out on top before completing the job with a win over Siofra Flynn in the final.

The opening set of the semi saw Chloe on top 21-10 but Paige came back strongly in the second and certainly gave her older sister something to think about before succumbing 21-15.

The top seed Neasa Flynn had lost 23-21 5-21 21-17 to Siofra Flynn in the other semi-final and Chloe was to take the first set of the final 21-14. Siofra levelled by snatching the second 21-18 just when Chloe looked set to clinch it.

However, there was only one person who was going to carry off the Munster title and that was the youngster from Lisburn 21-14 in the decider.

In the mixed doubles, Chloe was seeded number one with Dylan Woods and they reached the final with wins over Killian Gleeson and Rachel O’Flynn 21-8 21-3 and Jason Carr and Siofra Flynn 21-14 21-19.

Paige Woods, who teamed up with Jack Bridgeman, lost 21-8 21-14 in the semi-final to number two seeds Neil O’Sullivan and Lucy O’Halloran. Chloe helped to avenge her sister’s defeat when she and partner Dylan came through 21-19 21-7 to capture the mixed title.

There was to be disappointment, however, in the girls doubles with Neasa and Siofra Flynn spoiling the show as they brought to an end the bid by top seeds Chloe and Paige Woods to capture the doubles title as they were to go down in three sets having won the first 23-21.

Lucy Xu from the Alpha club teamed up with Ava Killian from Claregalway Badminton Club.

They were to enjoy a straight sets victory in the opening round over Sarah Barry and Molly Hill before knocking out Chloe Nolan and Sniddha Sibi 21-17 21-12 for a place in the final. However, it was the more experienced Flynn pair who took the title 21-8 21-7.
