Ballyclare Ladies, under new captain Louise Holmes, already have a couple of week’s fitness training under their belts at Ballyclare Rugby Club grounds, in preparation for the skills training that starts next week on the astro surface at Foundry Lane.

Last year the Clare girls just avoided relegation from a very competitive Senior League Section 1, and they are hoping to do better this season.

Meanwhile, two miles away in Doagh, the Parkview girls will be hoping to put last season’s woes behind them.

The team that had been beaten in a Section 3 promotion play-off the previous season was decimated by the loss of half a dozen players for a variety of reasons, ensuring that an uphill struggle was on the cards.

While several evergreen members helped out they were unable to prevent the almost inevitable relegation to Section 4, so a determined effort will be made to bounce straight up again.

Emphasis will be put on bringing forward some of the younger players, but an open invitation is extended to anyone, experienced or otherwise, who would like to have a game of hockey each weekend to make contact with club PRO, Clare Dundee (07710502480).
